Article: The Holy Spirit rides a Harley by Christy Lambertson
On some level we’re all Thomas, believing the wounds we can see and feel, rather than someone else’s stories.  We say that Thomas was a skeptic.  I think he was bereft.  There had been this man - miraculous, loving, and powerfully unpredictable.  Now there wasn’t, and he wanted to mourn the death and emptiness, not listen to Peter yammering on about some hysterical manifestation of his own guilt. >> more

Article: The Spirit is willing, are we? by John Wallis
Eric started his prayer with humility and it soon became clear that the Holy Spirit was with him in a powerful way. He communed with God for several minutes, the crowd mesmerized. People and issues unknown to this man were being prayed for. Once finished with this obvious connection with the Holy Spirit a conversation about supernatural things broke out. >> more

Article: Toward a missional spirituality by Len Hjalmarson

My generation was raised with religious life revolving around buildings: a Temple spirituality. Buildings represent settled religion: they are immobile, lending themselves to predictable forms. It was a spirituality of the center, where religious life was influential and expected. It was a spirituality for the familiar places, well-traveled paths and a way of life that was not strongly in contrast to the dominant culture. It had an established priesthood, mostly well trained professionals who did the spiritual work for us. The priests dominated the action.

Article: From worship leader to funkmeister by Jim Couchenour

"It was a terrific ride. And after 6 ½ years, it was time to go. Time to quit. For about a year at the end, I felt an unmistakable nudge to somehow move outside the walls of our church and into some kind of front lines ministry. "

Article: One nation, under God? by Rob McAlpine

"The... famous words [of the Declaration of Independence] provide the defining vision of what would become the United States of America. They are foundational to our democratic republic. That is why we pause each year on July 4 to both celebrate and be reminded of their great place in history."

Article: Pray for Rudy Carrasco's family...by Charlie Wear

I just read the following news via Jordon Cooper:

"sam
Kafi, Sam and I are at Children's Hospital in Los Angeles. Last night, just after midnight, Kafi and I went to Huntington Hospital in Pasadena because we thought we might have given Sam a little too much tylenol. We called the on-duty nurse and that person suggested we come in to get things checked out. We waited from 1 am to 5 pm to get seen and then for the results of Sam's blood test to come back. The doctor said there were problems with the blood and that it looked like it might be leukemia. He arranged for us to transfer to Children's Hospital (where they have a special children's leukemia ward). We have been here since 4pm. It's been a long day for Sam, not sleeping well, getting stuck with needles, getting IVs put in to him. The doctor came by this evening and said that most signs are pointing to leukemia, but that they would do a bone marrow biopsy in the morning and put in some catheter thing at the same time. They don't know when exactly Sam goes into the operating room. But not long after he does, we should know whether or not it's leukemia. more>>>

About once a year our best-laid plans evaporate and the press of life takes over and we skip a month of posting fresh articles on Next-Wave. This year it happened in July as Jason and Brooke Evans were in the process of moving to urban San Diego to follow God's call in their lives. Maybe next August we will have articles about money and tithing in the emerging church.

As usual, your comments on the articles are welcome. Likewise, feel free to become a member of the Next-Wave community and post your articles on the discussion link.

Blessings to you all.
