Feb 05 --- From Charlie Wear: Another month, and another excellent selection of articles on Next-Wave. I have "several" more articles to post this week! Thanks to all those who continue to write for Next-Wave. I sense that God is doing some interesting stuff in the "emerging", postmodern culture-reaching, organic, or ancient-future church.

Article: What I am and what I'm not - or a short history and explanation of the wider "emerging" church by Alan Creech
Interesting times we live in. Christian people are all over the lot. You can't really pin it down can you. Even those within certain sectors are hard to connect. I've seen a couple of things lately about the "emergent church" or "the emerging church" and what it is and isn't, etc., blah blah. It's all a very confusing sort of mess at this point. It wasn't always. >> more

Article: Discipleship, Church Growth, Postmodernism and the Missional and Traditional Church, a "conversation"
A running conversation broke out at Chris Marshall's blog, Ordinary Community in the latter part of December, 2004. It was initiated by Chris's open letter to his wife's uncle, Barry Long, the senior pastor of a "traditional" church in Northern Kentucky.  The "conversation" carried on for several days in posts and comments. Next-Wave asked Barry and Chris to continue the dialogue by responding to a few questions. >> more

Article: The Distorted Truth About God by Avril Speaks
I once got into a discussion with a friend of mine about meditation as she informed me that she gets answers to life’s problems by lighting candles and praying. Because of our friendship and knowing that she is not a believer, I asked her “Well, when you pray, who are you praying to?” “The Universe”, she answered. >> more

Article: Victorian Secret by David Fairchild
I have a bit of useless information if you're interested. I can tell you the name of every store in every mall in San Diego that does business directly across from every Victoria 's Secret. Yep, that's right. I'm the proud owner of this nifty little intellectual capital and I don't care who knows it! >> more

Article: Worth the Wait by John Wallis

Article: Forging a Good Critique by Rob McAlpine
"As more critiques are being created by people outside of what has been called "the emerging church" (which would include EmergentVillage but is not limited to it -- as I'm sure the folks at EV would agree), the necessity of discerning the difference between a good critique and a poor one is heightened." >> more

Interview: Author and pastor Dan Kimball by Brian Orme
"I personally hate the word “relevant” (I don’t hate the magazine), but I think we can easily misunderstand what it means to be “relevant”.  In the effort to make ourselves relevant we can fall into the trap of putting on a façade or trying to be something we weren’t meant to be." >> more

Article: The most postmodern person in the Bible by Rogier Bos
[This article was first published March, 1999] Here’s a fun question: Who is the most Postmodern person in the Bible? My vote goes to Pontius Pilate, who, in true postmodern fashion, and far ahead of his time, utters the philosophical question ‘what is truth?". >> more
